Its main components are:

  1. 2 cups of beans (navy beans, lima beans according to your own liking and tastes)
  2. 1 onion
  3. 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  4. Salt
  5. Half a cup of brown sugar
  6. 2 tablespoon molasses
  7. Tomato or BBQ sauce
  8. Chicken or bacon (to act as an extra ingredient as per your wish)

Steps:

  1. Soak the beans in cold water overnight.
  2. Now, cook the beans in lukewarm water so that they become tender and soft.
  3. You can cook chicken or bacon at this point or even grill it for that added kick.
  4. Now that your beans are cooked, drain the water and add the meat into the mix.
  5. Next, take the onions and sauté it.
  6. Pour mustard, salt, the brown sugar, molasses, the sauce in a mixing bowl and add the onions.
  7. Add the meat and beans to the mix.
  8. Preheat the oven at 350F.
  9. Place the mix in a casserole or a dish in such a way that the beans sit at the bottom and the onion and meat are at the top.
  10. Cover the dish with a lid and pop it into the preheated oven.
  11. Let it stay in the oven for about 3 hours.
  12. Add some sauce if the beans appear too dry.
  13. Finally, put the baked beans in a pellet smoker for about 2.5 hours at a temperature of 250F.
  14. Once done check for the internal temperature of the beans which should be around 150F
